Moving Boxes in Santa Rosa

How to Pack Moving Boxes Efficiently

Packing boxes efficiently is critical for a smooth, hassle-free move. When moving, many people simply shove items in their moving boxes without a real plan. Improperly packing boxes could mean more work on your end after arriving at your new home. Moving boxes in Santa Rosa should be packed and stored in the right manner to minimize damages.

Here are some tips to pack moving boxes faster, smarter, and more efficiently.

You cannot use just any boxes for moving items. Traditional boxes may collapse under the weight of items. Use boxes specifically designed for the purpose.

Avoid using old or used boxes as they may collapse or may be contaminated with pests that can damage your items. Other items to have on hand include packing paper or bubble wrap, packing tape, and labels.

Fill Your Moving Boxes Almost Completely

Boxes that aren’t full may collapse when stacked. To reduce the likelihood of boxes collapsing, fill them completely with items. Before sealing a box, add excess packing paper to it. Add at least two inches of packing material to all sides of the boxes containing fragile items.

No box should weigh more than 30 pounds. Use small or mid-sized boxes for heavy items and large boxes for lighter items.

Use Box Dividers for Fragile Items

When packing breakable items such as glassware, use dividers to section off the boxes. Available in different sizes, these dividers offer the best protection against damage.

To add an extra layer of protection, wrap your fragile items in packing paper or bubble wrap before placing them in dividers.

Seal and Label Boxes

After you have packed a box, seal it with strong packing tape. To correctly seal a box, first wrap the tape across its top with the flaps. Next, wrap additional tape across the top – this time, against the flaps. Sealing boxes this way prevents them from collapsing, minimizing the risk of damage. After sealing a box, clearly label it. Remember to mention the contents of the box.

Be Careful When Packing Fragile Items

Take the time to wrap your fragile items. It’s better to overpack breakable items such as glassware than underpack them. Place dishes and plates on their sides. When stacking cups and plates, place paper or padding between each piece.
